Society Secretary
​
Someone to organize and develop all aspects of the society. We are looking for someone who is organised, enthusiastic, and personable who is able to provide office management and administrative support for the society. You would be required to work alongside other team members and a committee of volunteers.
​
The role requires that time is managed to carry out the various tasks in a timely manner. Excellent written and spoken communication skills. A sound knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, emails, websites, and aspects of social media. An agricultural knowledge with some knowledge of the workings of charitable organisations would be a significant advantage along, although not essential.
​
Most of the meetings take place in the evenings and there is an increased workload running up to the show therefore the need to be able to work flexible hours is essential.
​
The is a part time self-employed role that requires a minimum of 200 hours per year, which would be approximately two days in every month.
​
Main duties for Society Secretary

Ensure the society complies with charity aims and objectives and the society adheres to all charity, limited company and health and safety obligations

To promote the society

Maintain a database of members, work to further enhance and encourage membership numbers
-
Compile and circulate regular newsletters for society members
-
Organise, attend and minute committee meetings, requirement to attend evening meetings.

Introduce new business practices where appropriate that will enhance the society’s effectiveness
-
Suggest ways to enhance the society income and minimise costs whilst still meeting overall aims and objectives
-
Arrange the logistics and running of society events and competitions
-
Coordinate the society’s Young Farmer of the Year Award
-
Keep all members updated with activities, meetings, competitions, and other relevant information
-
Whilst supporting and liaising with the show secretary, taking on responsibilities on show day
-
Collection and administration of all society and show trophies
-
Monitor legislation that might impact the society and its activities
-
Act as data protection officer for the society

Work to increase volunteer numbers
-
Be responsible for the society’s AGM each year and ensure all members have all the necessary paperwork in advance
-
Update relevant sections of the website
-
Involvement in the social media for the society
-
Undertake any other duties agreed with Society Directors
